Biography
James is a tax partner in the Financial Services Organization at Ernst & Young LLP with over 20 years of experience in state and local taxes. James’ experience within the asset management industry ranges from consulting through compliance on private equity and hedge fund clients. His team is fully integrated and responsible for providing knowledge throughout the full compliance cycle, including tax estimates, extensions, filings and notice management. James is responsible for setting leading practices across the FSO SALT asset management group. In addition, he is responsible for knowledge management focusing on state tax hot topics and advising on relevant legislative developments impacting the industry.
James has lectured and taught on several topics, including pass-through compliance and withholding, New York sourcing rules and combination, and the treatment of foreign source income at the state level.
James authored “Making sense of California tax law for hedge funds” for HFMWeek.
James has a BA from Morehouse College. He attended Washington & Lee School of Law. In addition, he is an adjunct lecturer for Binghamton University. James holds a CPA license in and is a member of the bars of New York and the District of Columbia.
